Our Final Plan 2009-10

Big oops! I accidentally deleted my original post about our curriculum! Goofy me! I was trying to add an item that the principal wanted us to continue using. Well, here it is again...our final curriculum line up for 2009-10. My oldest will be taking classes at the local college but here's the line up for the rest. Sorry if I confused anyone. :D

(ds) 5th grade and (twin ds) 6th grade:
Grammar and Composition: Sheldon's Advance Language Lessons
We have been using this since dropping Rod and Staff English this past year and my children are doing really well with this. Initially, I did it as a standby until we would start Harvey's in the upcoming year but we really like it. I love how the lessons are explained in a conversational tone. This is a more classical version of Emma Serl's Language Lessons as someone shared with me. We will more than likely start Harvey's in 7th or 8th.

Creative Composition: Story Starters by Karen Andreola
Story Starters reinforces grammar and prompts a child to write with clarity and more detail.

Math: Math U See Delta and Epsilon

Spelling/Dictation: We are sticking with Spelling Wisdom. Our Spelling Wisdom book is for 5th to 7th grades so I feel no reason to switch to Simply Spelling based on the fact the rules are laid out for me when I have been basically doing the same with Spelling Wisdom. I think I had a moment of laziness. (sigh) Simply Spelling is for grades 3-12 but my gang will be ending spelling pretty soon so there was really no need to purchase this at the present.

Poetry: Poems for Memorization This is one of my favorite poem books next to Harp and Laurel Wreath. Poems are organized according to grade levels from 1-10.

Bible, History, Literature, Science, Art, Music:
My Father's World Creation to Greeks Deluxe (have)
My Father's World is a Bible based unit study curriculum that is a mixture of the Charlotte Mason and the Classical Approach. In MFW, each year builds upon the previous year as far as depth of the material. MFW incorporates many subjects which makes it very easy to teach multiple ages. We will use Lori's Book of the Centuries Timeline due to limited hanging space for MFWs timeline.

Nature Study: Nature Study Idea Book for All Ages
I've read great reviews about this book but this will be our first time using this. We also have Handbook of Nature Study.

Character: Laying Down the Rails (have)
This is a Charlotte Mason habit (character) training handbook provided by Simply Charlotte Mason.

Foreign Language: Latina Christiana (have)
Latina Christiana is a wonderful Christian Latin curriculum that comes with DVDs, workbooks and additional supplements. We basically dropped Latin this year due to our busy schedule but plan to add it this fall.

Logic: Building Thinking Skills and games

Typing: Typing Tutor (have) and Dance Mat Typing(free)

Co-op: Music Theory, Cooking and Health/P.E.

Sports: Football, Basketball and Soccer

Music: Music Theory (co-op), Composer study (MFW), piano and guitar lessons

(dd 3) Preschool:
Math readiness, Reading Readiness, Listening and Motor Skills, Colors and Shapes:
MFW Preschool Package
Your Baby Can Read (have)
Leap Frog DVDs (have)
Star Fall (free)
...lots of library book readings, coloring, painting, fun educational play and ballet.

I'm working on an updated scope and sequence of our plans. Hopefully, I can share it soon.

You're such a good homeschool momma, Kysha!

We're going to do Letter of the Week too, and we LOVE the LeapFrog DVDs.

I've heart of the Dance Mat Typing...we don't have typing software...do your kiddos like dance mat?

Glad you got your CTG, we've had a good 1st year homeschooling with it:)

You are so organized! We LOVED those Leap Frog DVDs. I think the reading ones were a huge help in teaching my youngest to read!

Well I'm glad you did, because I wanted to check out that spelling you're using. But I couldn't remember to pop over here and look. But Voila! there you were on my feed reader this morning, there's the spelling, bookmarked it! all done! Thank you for accidentally deleting your old post ;-)

O.K....Can you say, "INSPIRING!"?

This is what's goign on in my head but I need to get it finalized and on paper. What a huge help your post is.

Also, I am interested in Simply Spelling b/c I was wondering just last week about spelling RULES. I bought Spelling Wisdom and want to use it but now am concerned my boys need the spelling rules.

Thanks for all you do!
