We have completed our first week of school even though we had interruptions along the way. We made it! Thank the Lord! Our main curriculum is My Father's World Creation to Greeks and I have been really impressed with it. It is very different in comparison to our year in My Father's World Exploring Countries and Cultures. I have been very pleased with the choices of literature and spines lined up. I'm so glad the Lord led us to MFW. As a matter of fact, I had just made that same statement this morning during our lessons. LOL! Ok, so what did we do?Bible and History: Creation Study and notebooking. All of the days were labeled in Hebrew. We will start our timeline next week.
Science: We are using Genesis for Kids in My Father's World which follows the Days of Creation. It is packed full of experiments and we are learning about Light. We did an experiment that taught us how light travels to our brain and allows us to see images. The coin on the right became invisible to the seeing eye during this experiment. This was so neat!
Writing: We didn't start Story Starters this week but we will hopefully ease into it within the next week. I am still reading the How To's and the wonderful info that Karen Andreola has packed into this book. Awesome!
Poetry: none this week.
Foreign Language/Vocabulary: We dropped our formal Latin program last year. It just wasn't enough time to fit it into our days and as a busy mommy, I decided to stick to the plan and follow My Father's Word Greek word study using English from the Roots Up. I love it! We will learn a different word each week. Look up definitions. Study derivatives and write sentences using those words. We will study Latin in My Father's World Rome to Reformation next year and then a formal program of study in the following year. This works much better for me and the gang is learning.
Art and Art History: We are using God and the History of Art in My Father's World (Deluxe Creation to Greeks package) and we learned the story of an artist, Joni Eareckson Tada, who due to a spinal injury, was paralyzed yet had given her life to God then began to draw and paint using her teeth. We tried to experience how she did this. It was not easy! It really makes you appreciate the artist and also appreciate the abilities we often take for granted.
The finished "teeth-drawn" pieces.
Math: We worked on some three digit multiplication, word problems, area and perimeter but I'm really praying about our Math. We are using MUS and everyone is crying boredom. I don't want to cave into it. Two of my dc can actually move onto something different that may work much better I'm sure but I think it works great for another one who needs the drill. I'm still praying. I'm cheap plus I'm on a budget so I'm really praying over this one. I don't like change.
Typing: Typing fun with Dance Mat Typing. We have Typing and then we play educational games on Fridays. They are allowed to play Timez Attack (multiplication game), Blokus (logic), Checkers (logic), Pictureka, etc. on Fridays. It's a "no school" day since we school Monday through Thursday but I have to slip some education in there somewhere. LOL!
Here are some pics of our Sabbath celebration this week in My Father's World.
